247984 Pte. John Richard Brooks British Army 7th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment from:Wood Green, London Jack Brooks enlisted at Dorchester (why Dorchester?) on the 15th of November 1939, and was assigned to Dorset Regiment. His Address was 124 Perth Rd, Wood Green and his previous occupation a Plumber's Improver.
Until to 19th of April 1940 he was on Home service with T.C.
then transferred to 7th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment and assigned to British Expeditionary Force.
On the 22nd of April he travelled to France.
Jack was Recorded as Missing during the German advance towards Dunkirk on the 20th of May and confirmed as being a Prisoner of War.
Like many others captured around Dunkirk, he was probably marched (at least across Belgium and possibly all the way) to POW Camp Stalag XX-A.
On the 18th of September his family were informed to be held at POW camp Stalag XX-A at Torun, Poland. On the 1st of November they were informed to have been transferred to POW camp Stalag XX-B at Malbork, Poland and assigned POW No 10251.
09/05/1945 - He arrived back in UK on the 9th of May and after leave was assigned to 3rd Infantry Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. On the 7th of July he was transferred to Y List and on 30th of August to
No 8 CRU. He was on leave 28th of September to 22nd of November and was finally discharged on the 21st of January 1946 as permanently unfit for any form of military service). Still a private. Character, Exemplary.
