AbleSea. Albert John Springall

Royal Navy HMS Nelson

from:Poplar, Westham

My father, Bert Springall, enlisted as a boy seaman at the onset of WW2 and after completing his training began his service on HMS Nelson. He transferred to a T class submarine as a torpedoman on which he served until being transferred to beach commando training for DDay landing on Juno Beach.

He then transferred to HMS Barfluer and after a good will tour of Australian ports joined the British Pacific Fleet. He was in Tokyo Bay at the Japanese surrender.

After being demobilized he settled in Australia.
