My father Jimmy Haye joined at the outbreak of war and served in France. He was evacuated at Dunkirk and later joined the 18th division. He was batman to the CO, Col Thomas and was captured at Singapore. He went up country in F force to work on the railway and was one of 200 survivors out of 1600 at Sonkari.
Later he was appointed batman to Col Dillon and served Lord and Lady Mountbatten their tea after the surrender.
