Sgt. Ronald Arthur Ray
Royal Air Force 76 Squadron
I am just beginning to research my grandfather's story. He was on a bombing raid to Frankfurt on the night of the 18/19th March of 1944. His Halifax bomber was shot down over Frankfurt. He parachuted out and was subsequently captured and interrogated. He spent a week in solitary confinement at Dulag Luft, then was moved to a transit camp before being taken to Stalag Luft 6 in Lithuania.
His name was Ronald Ray. He was part of 76 Squadron and was a Flight Engineer on a Halifax bomber. His crew mates were, Les Basting (Mid Upper Gunner), Alex Buckle (Wireless Operator), Geoff Heaton (Navigator), Charles 'Chuck' Reed (Bomb Aimer) who didn't get out of plane hatch, Van Marle (Rear Gunner)he was a replacement just for that night and Peter Noyce (Pilot) who was killed and went down with plane.
