At the age of 15 William Stride went with the International brigade to fight against Franco. In 1939 he joined the Royal Navy and served on various ships. He was wounded while using an anti aircraft gun and spent time in hospital in Boston U.S.A. The ships he served on were Nelson, Queen Elizabeth, Dragon and Magpie, maybe others. He served for 12 years and was discharged in March 1950 and died in 1975.
