Gnr. William Thornley

British Army Royal Artillery

Dad, Bill Thornley was in the 1st Air Landing Brigade and parachuted into Arnhem, as part of Market Garden. He was reported missing a few days later. It was confirmed that he had been shot in the leg and taken prisoner 26th of September 1944. He was in Stalag X1B, until he was freed on the 22nd of April 1945.

He never ever spoke about the experiences he'd had. No doubt the memories lived with him until his death 2002.
