Pte. Vincent Lewis Richards
British Army 1st Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment
from:Crickhowel, Breckonshire
(d.30th July 1944)
I have been helping to research the information and burial location of Pte V L Richards on behalf of a friend who now lives in Nottingham England.
Vincent Richards was my friend's uncle and the brother of my friend's father. The 2 brothers went to war in the same battalion of the same regiment (Dorsetshire). We know that my friend's father was wounded in action in a field in Normandy and was evacuated home but his brother (Pte V L Richards) was killed in action in an adjacent field. Pte V L Richards is buried at the cemetery at Tilly-Sur-Seulles Normandy France.
The two Richard brothers came from the Crickhowel in Wales and had married 2 sisters from their home town. The families last living memory of the brothers being together was when they were at the boundary limit of their village where they said their goodbye's to their wives (the 2 sisters) and walked a distance to the main road to be picked up by their transport.
My friend aged 71yrs in Nov 2018 will be visiting the grave of his uncle at Tilly-Sur-Seulles during the 19th-26th of October 2018 where he will lay a memorial on the grave.
