Geoffrey Sutcliffe was bayoneted and paralysed and blind for a time. He was held in Stalag XX1D and German doctor who had studied in Oxford kept him as a study patient so he had to follow wherever he went by cattle truck but he recovered back home.
He managed to avoid the sniper that was picking couriers off by laying horizontaly on a motor bike with a cigarette on the end of a stick 2 ft above his head as a mock target.
