Pte Thomas Neil Moss
British Army 2nd Btn. South Wales Borderers
from:Blackwood
Tommy Moss, drummer, boxer, singer and a great soldier and comrade served pre war served in Palestine, Northern Ireland and during the war in Norway, North Africa, Italy.
So many stories of laughs, starting a choir, riding back to barracks on a borrowed donkey, getting a lift in the CO's car, being starving and foraging for food, acquiring cigarettes and alcohol on night raids.
Remembered by comrades as the one who kept them going and playing a mandolin whilst bombs were dropping to calm younger soldiers. A plucky and daring soldier who never got the bravery medal promised on Anzio beachhead.
Tommy was born and bred in the Valleys which made him the tough character he was but also the gentle and caring soldier ready to help others in need. Granddaughter Alison Allen has written an account of his war, comrades, the friends lost and the years after as a special grandfather.
