Pte. Douglas Charles Hollis
British Army 9th Btn. Royal East Kent Regiment
from:London
(d.20th Jan 1942 )
Douglas Hollis (my father), was a signaller with the 9th Royal East Kent Regiment, working in Devon.
He was killed in an accident while delivering a message on his bike. Nothing heroic, just doing his job. I was born about 2 weeks later, so I never knew him.
I know that he was a choirboy before joining the Army, and in his working life he was a shoe salesman.
After his death my mum worked as a demonstrator in Selfridges, and for the post office.
