My mum, Gladys Adams always said the war days were the best in her life. She made me laugh when she said about drilling the girls to march and half turned left and the other half turned right. She said she had a driver but they were in a bad accident and the driver died. She also said it was awful leading a convoy because there were no street signs and no lights at night.
