Flying Officer Harold Roots was just 24 years old when he was killed flying an Airspeed Oxford Mk1 registration number L4616.
He had taken off from RAF Lulsgate Bottom on a training flight as part of a conversion training programme.
During the flight some five miles southwest of Lulsgate Bottom, one of the aeroplanes engines exploded, causing the aircraft to crash into the ground, killing F/O Harold Roots.
He was the only son of Harold and Ethel Roots of Maidstone in Kent.
Harold's remains now rest at Holy Cross Church, Bearsted, Kent.
He is my Great Uncle.
