William Quail joined the Royal Ulster Rifles in Belfast. He was transferred at some stage to the Durham Light Infantry.
He sailed from Southampton to Durban. He served in Egypt and Libya. He then served in Sicily, Italy and Greece when the war ended, and then travelled back to the UK.
He remained in the army and was discharged at Imphal Barracks, York.
