Capt. Robert Malcolm Barber
Merchant Navy MV Patella
(d.16th Feb 1944)
Robert Barber was Master of the MV Patella, a Royal Shell tanker sailing from Durban, South Africa when it was intercepted by the German Surface Raider Michel, which took 60 men prisoners including the Captain.
The ship was sunk by gunfire and the prisoners offloaded in Yokohama when the Michel next returned to port. The Patella had been carrying 10 tons of oil.
Captain Barber died in Yokohama after having been put to work in the Japanese coalmines.
