Royal Navy HMS Whimbrel

George Hogg joined the Royal Navy on 12th January 1943 aged 18. He served as an Able Seaman on radar in HMS Whimbrel and saw action at Sicily 1943, in the Atlantic 1943-44, during D Day in Normandy 1944, in the Arctic 1944, and at Okinawa in 1945. George Hogg was on HMS Whimbrel in Tokyo Bay at the Japanese surrender, Whimbrel was one of only six Royal Navy ships present.
He left the Navy on 3rd Sept 1946
