L/Cpl. William Herbert "Paddy" McQuitty
British Army 2nd Btn. Royal Norfolk Regiment
from:Belfast
In 1939, my natural grandfather, William McQuitty (known as Paddy) was a L/Cpl with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Norfolk Regiment.
He went to France with the Battalion and was evacuated from Dunkirk.
He subsequently transferred to the REME and served with them in Africa (Desert Rats) and later in Italy.
He survived the war and went back to Belfast, but couldn't settle in civilian life and rejoined REME, serving in Palestine.
He died in Belfast in 1982 and is buried in the Roselawn Cemetery.
