Ted Burgess joined the Cheshire Regiment in June 1940 age 19 and transferred to the 3rd Royal Tank Regiment in June 1941. He went to war in December 1941 age 20. His tank was blown up on the 2nd of June 1942 during the battle of Knightsbridge just south of Tobruk. The radio operator was killed but the rest of the crew were captured by the Italians and sent to Italy. From there he went through Europe ending up as a pow in Germany. He died in 1987 aged 64 years.
