In 1939 Kenneth Farnes was the cricketer of the year for Wisden.
He published an autobiography Tours and Tests in 1940.
In WW2 he enlisted in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve and was in Canada for his training period.
He was ranked as Sergeant before being promoted to Pilot Officer on 1st of September 1941. He was killed not long after his return to England whilst flying during a night flying exercise. He crashed shortly after take off near Chipping Warden in Oxfordshire.
