Pte. Lewis Henry Ward
British Army 4th Btn. Seaforth Highlanders

Lewis Ward, known as Harry, was born on the 19th June 1918.
He enlisted on the 15th July 1939 and after basic training was posted to the 4th Battalion, The Seaforth Highlanders who were posted in France on the 23rd January 1940.
He was taken prisoner on the 13th June 1940 at St. Valery-en-Caux and transported to Stalag XXA (20A), Llullay, Germany. On the 19th March 1942 he was later transferred to Stalag XXB, Marienburg, Poland, where he spent the rest of the war as a POW and working as a farm hand, on a local farm.
He returned to the United Kingdom on the 2nd May 1945 and discharged, on medical grounds, from the British Army on the 17th April 1946.
In August 1990, he met up with two of his ex POWs from Stalag XXB Willie Stoddart, Jim Bettison. He died on the 22nd February 1997.
