Pte. Frank Lightbown
British Army Royal Army Service Corps
from:Morecambe, Lancashire
(d.17th Jun 1940)
My uncle Frank Lightbown, died on board the S.S. Lancastria off St Nazaire, France.
It was reported by a friend who survived, that Frank was probably asleep below decks when the ship was bombed.
Frank was exhausted after walking miles from Dunkirk with little food or sleep.
The sinking of the Lancastria claimed more lives than the Titanic but the whole thing was covered up at the time.
