John Burge was a member of the Metropolitan Police but volunteered to join the Glider Pilot Regiment AAC and train as a Glider Pilot.
He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem), taking off from Tarrant Rushton in a Horsa Glider towed by a Halifax (Chalk No. 379).
He was killed in action aged 25 on 25th of September 1944 age 25 years and is remembered on the Groesbeek Memorial in The Netherlands.
