My uncle, David Woodward was born 7th of October 1919 in Boldon Colliery. He was the son of Daniel & Elizabeth Woodward and one of 4 brothers serving in the forces in WW2. David joined the Royal Navy.
He had served on several ships during WW2 and had been shipwrecked and rescued on two occasions. His last ship was HMS Electra which was lost during the battle of the Java Sea.
David was killed in action on 27th February 1942. He was 23 years old.
He is remembered on the Chatham Naval Memorial and in St Nicholas Church in Boldon Colliery.
