Royal Northumberland Fusiliers from:Broomhill, Northumberland William Mackay (my grandfather) served in the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers from 1940 to 1945. He survived the war, returning home to Broomhill in Northumberland in 1945. Before the war he was a footballer and played for a number of football teams including the 1934 Irish Cup Winning team of 1934, Linfield. He never talked of the war, even with my mother or her sister at any time.
