Sgt. Ralph Tracey

British Army Pioneer Corps

from:Ditchling, Sussex

I didn't know my grandfather Ralph Tracey as after the war he became estranged from my grandmother and sadly my mother and her siblings ended up in foster care. We found out that after losing his hand in the raid in Rennes and once recovered, he found it difficult to gain employment and to process the after effects of the war and sadly turned to drink. I found out about him through researching my family tree and older family members having the newspaper cutting. The newspaper story is amazing and showed me how very brave our Armed Forces were.
