Sgt. Jack Bernard Gooravitch
Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve 100 Squadron
from:London
(d.2nd January 1944)
Jack Gooravitch was my late father's uncle. He served with the Royal Air Force in WW2 flying with 100 Squadron.
The story goes that Jack signed up without his father's permission and when his father found out, he said that they were going to go to the enlisting office and tell them he was underage, which he was. Jack then said to his father that if he did, he will just sign up somewhere else. He apparently said 'I want to fight the Nazis'. Jacky was Jewish.
He died 2nd of January 1944 and is buried Hanover War Cemetery in Germany.
