Pte. George Clare
British Army Royal Army Service Corps
from:Glasgow
My mother's younger brother, my uncle George Clare, was captured in 1940 with the 51st Highland Division at Saint-Valery-en-Caux and spent the war in Stalag XX-A in Poland. He didn't speak much about his experiences but I know he was on the march from XX-A ahead of the advancing Russian army. I have a postcard he sent to me from the camp in 1941 when I was just short of my 5th birthday
He had married my aunt on embarkation leave and so didn't see her again till the end of the war. He lived to the ripe old age of 96.
