AB. Robert David Saunders
Royal Navy HMS Argonaut
from:Hendon, London
From my dad Bob Saunders service record he served on the Argonaut from 6th July, 1942 until 12th March 1944.
Like many of his era dad did not talk much about what happened during his service. But I knew he was very fond of the ship and his crew mates and talked very highly of the Captain Eric Longley-Cook. I knew he was on board when it got torpedoed and limped back to the USA where they were given time to explore while the ship was repaired.
He was also serving during the Normandy landings where he was given some unpleasant duties which I will not go into here and the exploits of the Americans formed a life long negative opinion of the US military capability.
