Thomas Canavan

British Army Northumberland Fusiliers

from:Co. Durham

Tom Canavan was my grandfather. He was captured at Dunkirk and spent the rest of the war as a prisoner. I have a tiny diary that he kept and also photographs taken at the camp. He sent lovely cards for my mum's birthday during these years as she was only 9 when he went away. She still has them. I think those times took their toll on him, and he died at just 64 when I was 15.
