John Ball Royal Navy HMS Narborough from:Wakefield, Yorkshire John Ball, my grandfather, joined the Royal Navy from a reserved occupation in February 1944, towards the end of World War 2. He served as a stoker 2nd class, and in November 1944 he became stoker 1st class. His main ship was HMS Narborough, a captain-class lend-lease frigate that saw plenty of action before the war's end.
