James Carpenter, joined the Durham Light Infantry and went to France. He fought and died in the BEF as rearguard at St. Venant aged just 20,
between 27th of May 1940 and 31st of May 1940. His father, my great uncle, also named James Frederick Carpenter, was badly wounded in WW1 and died 1923 due to his wounds.
