Sgt. Edgar Charles "Peanut" Wendle
US Army Air Corps 337th Bomb Squadron 96th Bomb Group
from:Beltrees, Illinois, USA
My dad, Edgar Wendle was a B-17 Flying Fortress bomber mechanic. He met my mom in England while in London on a day pass. After the war, he had my mom come over on the Queen Mary. He surprised her by meeting her in New York at the harbor when the ship arrived. They ended up in Jerseyville, Illinois buying a farm and a clothing store (Sessel's). My mom and dad ran the store, with my dad also working the farm as needed over the next several years. My mom and dad sold the store in 1976. My dad continued farming until he sold it in 1988. He died in April 2007. My mom passed away in March 2010.
