261426 Gnr. Leslie Newham British Army 1st Air Landing Regiment Royal Artillery from:Halifax, West Yorkshire My uncle, Leslie Newham, was one of the first soldiers to land in Arnhem in Sept 1944. Unfortuntely, he was captured by the Germans on 26th of September 1944 and taken to a German P.O.W camp. He was initially taken to Stalag 12A & was then transferred to Stalag 4B. He was being transferred again on 28 Jan & was marching westwards when he was released on 30 Jan 1945 when the Soviet Red Army liberated the camps.
