Roland Sothe was born on 27th of January 1921 in Hyas, Saskatchewan
to John and Augusta Sothe, He was the only son and the youngest of five children. He worked as a truck driver when he enlisted in the Canadian Army in April, 1942 at Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, the 100th Canadian Army Training Center. Shortly thereafter, he transferred to the Canadian Army Medical Corps. he embarked for England in July, 1942 and was assigned to the 10th Field Ambulance unit and later to the 4th Field Dressing Station which sailed from England on 5th of July 1944 and landed in France on 7th of July. He was wounded on 15th of August 1944 and died the following day. He was buried in a temporary grave located at St. Germain la Blanche-Herbe in Normandy, France and his remains were later moved to the Beny-sur-Mer Canadian Military Cemetery. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, France Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.
