Arthur John Lawrence Royal Navy HMS Tana from:Dartford, Kent My father, Arthur Lawrence, was employed in a reserved occupation up to 25 March 1943, when he was enlisted into the Royal Navy. He served 3 months at HMS Pembroke at Chatham, before being sent to Mombasa, where he was stationed on HMS Tana from June 1943 to March 1945 In March 1945, he was transferred to HMS Simba but was back on Tana in November for 10 days before being transferred to Pembroke, where he stayed until his release from service on 29 March 1946. I think it likely that he travelled to Mombasa on the Tana and was billeted on her for most of the duration of his time in Mombasa. He appears to have returned to the UK on the Tana before his transfer to Pembroke and his final release.
