P/O. Charles Forbes Stead StJohn "Jimmy" Briggs
Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
My father, Charles Briggs known as Jimmy was a flying instructor in Vereeniging in around 1943 to 1945 specialising in air gunnery for fighter pilots.
I believe they flew Miles Masters.
I was born in Vereeniging in 1944 and we returned to the UK in about August 1945.
My father was demobbed, held a couple of jobs as a private flying instructor before being recalled for the Korean War.
He re-trained on fast jets and we moved to Cambridge where he was an instructor at the Advanced Flying School at RAF Oakington flying Harvards and Meteors.
He was then posted to Amman in Jordan where he taught both British and Jordanian pilots in Vampire T2s.
