Pte. Robert Stanley Ward

British Army Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards)

from:Carlin How. Saltburn TS13 4DP

Stan Ward was a Rangefinder. He was held as a prisoner of war. He was sent to work in a coal mine and ended up with a spinal injury in Stoke Mandeville Hospital. He had the utmost respect for the Polish people he was forced to work with, in particular a jeweller who my father shared his Red Cross parcel with for his children. He actually made my father a ring from some pre war silver coins all smuggled in and out of a mine.
