Royal Naval Reserve HMS Aristocrat
Dennis Lambert was an RNR officer recalled to active duty in 1939. Initially he commanded HMS Aristocrat, an old paddle steamer, on air defence duties in the Thames Estuary during the London Blitz.
He was awarded a DSC for his tireless efforts.
Later he served in the destroyer HMS Viscount before taking command of a new US-built frigate HMS Zanzibar and escorting convoys across the North Atlantic.
He died in May 1992
Pre and post-war he was a successful fruit farmer in Danbury, Essex.
