John Whaley trained with No. 9 AFU at RAF Hullavington from 6th of February 1942 to 1st of March 1942. The training aircraft were Miles Magisters. He flew both as solo pilot and second pilot with Flight Sergeant Cooper, Pilot Officer Tasker, Flying Officer Topper and Sergeant Gripiaos.
