Ronald Wilfred Leonard Harbord
Royal Navy HMCS Kamloops
from:Middlesex
My grandfather, Ronald Harbord passed out of HMS Royal Arthur in Class 136 around 6th August 1942, the date written by him on the back of his class photo, along with a full row-by-Row list of surnames of his class. He served as a P.O. Radar Technician on HMCS Kamloops K176 until 1945, where he finished as C.P.O. in Portsmouth (we think). Kamloops was a Canadian corvette serving in the Battle of the Atlantic on escort duties protecting the merchant convoys. The ship was also used for the manoeuvring scenes in the wartime film K225.
We have his HMS Royal Arthur handbook and cap ribbon, but little else about his time there.
