Cpl. Robert James Armstrong

British Army Royal Northumberland Fusiliers

from:Callerton, Newcastle upon Tyne

My father was serving abroad at the start of WW2. I remember him telling me the company he was with were ambushed. He was driving a lorry that went into a ditch. Everyone other than my father was killed outright. In fact he was reported as being dead for almost a year until my mother heard he was alive and a prisoner of war held at Stalag XXB. Unfortunately my younger brother kept all the details of his number etc when our father died suddenly aged 48 and he can’t remember where he kept them. Our father could turn his hand to anything with a good singing voice, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he was well known within the camp.
