Surg.Lt. Robert Joseph "Roy" McClements
Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve HMS Tyne
from:Garvey, Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland
My dad, Robert McClements was a surgeon on the HMS Tyne when it visited Sydney and then went up to the Japan area. He mentioned Hiroshima, but never really talked about it, and he never attended a Remembrance Day service. I believe that what he saw haunted him throughout his life. He never left Northern Ireland after returning from his Naval Reserve duty. He said he had seen the world and its sadness.
I emigrated to Australia with my mother and my family after he died in 1978. As ANZAC day approaches, I have found some old photographs which he had, I am sorry to say, there are no names on the back of the photos.
