Sgt Charles "Barry" Barrow

British Army 2nd Btn. D Coy. Cameron Highlanders

from:Liverpool

My Dad Charles Barrow joined the Liverpool Scottish in early 1939. He went to Egypt in 1940 and participated in the desert campaigns and in the Battle of Keren. He escaped from Tobruk after jumping in the bay and being picked up by a yacht, the Carol Dean, which was then sunk by tank fire. He was later rescued by a naval PT boat. Later he was in Italy in that campaign with the resurrected 2nd Battalion, Cameron Highlanders. He got as far as Luca and was on leave when the war ended.
