My dad Bernard Constable joined the Royal Navy circa 1942 He remembered training as very hard. No walking, doubling everywhere He reckoned you could tell an excellence rating because the lace eyelets on their shoes were paint stripped and polished. He went on to join Coastal Forces as an Able Seaman oerlikan gunner on ML 442 and served at D Day and in the Battle of Walcheren Island to take Antwerp
