Skr. Donald Charles Brunger
Royal Navy HMS Rockingham
from:Ticehurst, East Sussex
My father, Donald Brunger served on HMS Rockingham.
His biggest regret was winning the ships sweep stake of £12.00 then being sunk after being mistakenly taken into their own minefield off Scotland.
They had to jump on to another destroyer that came alongside. One sailor had a broken leg, another was never found.
Dad finished the war on HMS Sefton and was in Burma when the Japanese surrendered.
He died at the age of 90, he referred to my computer as a television and was not amused when I showed him on the website the cross where the ship and his £12.00 lays.
