Civilian Inst. Hubert Stevenson Foy
from:Legborne Road Louth
My father Hubert Foy was an instructor at a local RAF station to our home in Blackpool, who was later posted to RAF Manby, Lincs. Our home was at 26 Legborne Road, Louth.
My father was a civilian instructor on gun turrets in the aircraft.
I have a vivid memory as a small child of attending an Empire Air Day at Manby after the war and being shown the aircraft gun turrets. Aged 6, we moved to Grimsby, where I was brought up.
I won an air scholarship, learning to fly (aged 17) on Austers at Skegness Airfield, where I was awarded my PPL, before joining the RAF myself in 1991, and training as a pilot on Jet Provosts.
