My grandmother told me stories how he and some of the others would kill a pig and have a barbecue or ruin the laundry on purpose. It was sort of their little ways of fighting the Germans discretely. I know he saw some really horrible things during the five years he was there and I have a letter from Red Cross telling my great grandmother where her husband was.
