Wanted: Digital copies of Group photographs, Scrapbooks, Autograph books, photo albums, newspaper clippings, letters, postcards and ephemera relating to WW2. We would like to obtain digital copies of any documents or photographs relating to WW2 you may have at home.If you have any unwanted photographs, documents or items from the First or Second World War, please do not destroy them. The Wartime Memories Project will give them a good home and ensure that they are used for educational purposes.

Ord. Seaman Andrew Fraser Davidson HMS Barham (d.25th Nov 1941)
My dad's brother, Andrew Fraser Davidson was killed on board HMS Barham.
This is the only photo taken of my father, Bill and his brother together.
Taken during training in the Isle of Man, Andy is marked with an X.

CPO. George Bolt MID. HMS Caledonia
My grandfather, George Bolt, volunteered on the 9th May 1924 on board HMS Victory as stoker 2/C. Then on the 11th Nov 1924 he transferred to HMS Hermes as stoker 1/C class until June 1925, when he moved successively to Victory II, Vivid, and Furious as acting leading stoker. On the 29th October, he transferred to Fisgard as leading stoker, then to Resource on the 24th March 1930, back to Victory again on 26th May 1932 as Acting Stoker PO, then to the Vortigen. Then he served aboard HMS Crusader as Stoker/PO from 6th May 1933 until September 1934, then Effingham from 25th December 1934 until 25th April 1935. From 26th April 1935 until September 1939, he served on the Greenwich, the Pembroke, the Enterprise, and the Caledonia.Then he was assigned to HMS Kimberley as CPO from 13th October 1939 until 19th April 1940, during which time he participated in the 2nd Battle of Narvik. Afterward, he served on Bridport, Spartiate, Scarborough, Rhyl, and Loring. He finished his naval life with a Class A release on 11th July 1946 whilst assigned to HMS Cullin Sound.

Dad was in the Royal Navy from 22 Nov 1938-8 June 1949 list of ships he served on in order of service:

He served on a few more but I had trouble in deciphering dad's certificate of service records. He never spoke about the war during his lifetime but having received a copy of his war records recently and reading about his dangerous engagements makes you fill proud.

Ord.Sea. John George Chisholm HMS Bonaventure (d.31st Mar 1941)
My cousin, Jackie Chisholm, was an only child and volunteered 14 March 1938, aged 16, unbeknownst to his parents. His training was aboard the HMS Caledonia at Rosyth, and after serving as a Boy 1 on board the Drake and Hermes, he joined the Bonaventure in May 1940 as an Ordinary Seaman.The Bonaventure was torpedoed and sunk south of Crete on 31st March 1941 with many lives lost. Jackie's name is on Plymouth Naval War Memorial on Plymouth Hoe, dedicated to sailors who have been lost at sea. He was 19 years old when he died.

Cmdr(E) William John Shute HMS Caledonia
I am researching the life of Cmdr John Shute (E) for his grandsons and am trying to find out to find out about his time on HMS Caledonia and then his time at Rosyth Dockyard. Also his award of the OBE. I believe he was Assistant to the Engineering Manager. Can anyone help?John Keeling
