Michael Hart HMS Whimbrel

My grandfather, Michael Hart, was one of the crew members on HMS Whimbrel. After the disappointing news that the ship would not be coming back to Liverpool I thought I would put together a montage for my Granddad's Christmas present. I do have a number of pictures of the ship but I am looking for any pictures of the crew members together. I know this would make my Granddad very proud and would be grateful if anyone could help me. My Granddad holds lots of dear memories about his life on board the Whimbrel.

AB. George Hogg HMS Whimbrel

George Hogg joined the Royal Navy on 12th January 1943 aged 18. He served as an Able Seaman on radar in HMS Whimbrel and saw action at Sicily 1943, in the Atlantic 1943-44, during D Day in Normandy 1944, in the Arctic 1944, and at Okinawa in 1945. George Hogg was on HMS Whimbrel in Tokyo Bay at the Japanese surrender, Whimbrel was one of only six Royal Navy ships present. He left the Navy on 3rd Sept 1946

CPO. Harry Morris HMS Whimbrel

Dad, Harry Morris joined HMS Whimbrel when it was commissioned. His service record shows that he was previously crewed on HMS Harvester, and that he joined Whimbrel on 30th of December 1942, when he was ranked as ERA IV CPO in the engine room. He served on-board until the 12th of July 1944, after going through the Battles of the Atlantic, Arctic service, Normandy and Sicily.

He died when I was 10, so I did not get to know about his wartime experiences, and I do not have any photos of the period. It would be wonderful to see any photos of the Whimbrel and her crew.

Harry Morris

Stanley Wrigley HMS Whimbrel

My father, Stanley Wrigley, was serving onboard HMS Whimbrell when the Japenese signed the surrender in 1945. He later went to Australia I think for a refit of some kind. I would love to hear from anyone who knew him
