Want to find out more about your relative's service? Want to know what life was like during the War? Our Library contains an ever growing number diary entries, personal letters and other documents, most transcribed into plain text.
Wanted: Digital copies of Group photographs, Scrapbooks, Autograph books, photo albums, newspaper clippings, letters, postcards and ephemera relating to WW2. We would like to obtain digital copies of any documents or photographs relating to WW2 you may have at home.If you have any unwanted photographs, documents or items from the First or Second World War, please do not destroy them. The Wartime Memories Project will give them a good home and ensure that they are used for educational purposes.

Albert Oates served in HMS Mayina in Jul 1945 and later in Feb 1946 and HMS Tenegra in 1945. After the war he was in HMT Pasteur Feb 1946 which was in Toulon, France and HMS Savage in May 1946.Phil Oates

My father, Matt Broad, was based at HMS Mayina between 7th March 1945 and 30th March 1945 after which he joined the escort carrier HMS Stalker for Operation Dracula and various other operations off Ceylon and the Malayan coast.Rory Broad
O. Tel. Henry Desmond King HMS Mayina (d.23rd May 1946)
Ordinary Telegraphist King was the son of Thomas and Sarah Elizabeth King, of Rosbrien. Limerick.He was 24 when he died and is buried in Grave 6B, in the Limerick (St. Mary) Cathedral Churchyard, Co. Limerick, Ireland.

Tel. Robert Henry Chick HMS Stonecrop
Robert Chick seems to have spent almost his entire war (December 1940 to until discharged February 1946) on the Corvette HMS Stonecrop. Only other ships mentioned in service record are: Royal Arthur, Drake, Eaglet, Mercury, Mayina and Lanka which are all shore bases. He started as a cadet in Merchant Navy 16/02/39 on SS Harberton.

Ord Sigs Godfrey John Ridgley HMS Royal Arthur
My dad, Godfrey John Ridgley, served aboard HMS Royal Arthur from May 15th 1941 until 24th September 1941. He was a Ordinary Signalman.I came across his Navy history whilst sorting out my mother's house and found he went on to serve on Pembroke, Badger, Paris, Europa, Laulia and Mayina, finishing in May 1946 aboard Europa.
