WJ Church . British Army Highland Light Infantry
WJ Church served with the Highland Light Infantry British Army. I have his unissued dogtags, made in preparation for deployment to the Far East and would love to get them home to his family. I am happy to cover all costs. If you are a family member or can put me in touch with them please get in touch.
Update: Unfortunately The Wartime Memories Project has lost touch with Dan, his website, facebook page and email have all ceased to function. But if you can add any details about the person listed, please use the add to record link below.

Sgt. Thomas Fisher Churchill . British Army 9th Btn. Cameronians from Burnside, Glasgow
(d.26th June 1944)
Sgt Thomas F Churchill, died 26th June 1944 - I have just returned from holidaying in Normandy, France where I was able to locate my uncle who was killed on 26th June 1944.
He lies in peace at the British War Cemetry in Bayeux. He was 22 years old and with him lie two other soldiers from the same Regiment who also died on the same day, one of the soldiers is 'known only unto God.' I would like to find out more about the circumstances that lead to his death if possible. I'm curious that three soldiers who lie together, having died on the same day, possibly were fighting together when they met their demise. I know nothing of how he came to be there and with his brothers and sister also now gone, there is no-one I can ask. If anyone recognises my uncle's name, I would love to hear from you. He was only one of many who lost his life but also, too young to die. Kind Regards
Walter Myers Churchill DSO, DFC.. Royal Air Force 3 Squadron from Leanington Spa
My brother and I as very small boys were allowed to visit Debden in 1942. We were taken around the airfield in a Bren gun carrier, going over a ditch and hedge. Included in the visit was the radio room where we were encouraged to speak to a pilot on patrol over the North Sea. I remember the incredible noise as, standing on the Tarmac, a Hurricane or maybe a Spit was warmed up for takeoff. We sat on a windowsill of the mess when the airfield was beaten up by (enemy?) fighters.
My father had fought in France, The Battle of Britain and later was sent by Park as AOC Malta in 1942 where he was recorded Missing in Action 1942. He flew with 3, 605 and 71 Squadrons. I am now 81 and some of my memories might be a little coloured!
Margery Ivy Churchman . Auxiliary Fire Service
Gnr. Arthur Churm . British Army Royal Artillery from Warrington, Lancashire
Arthur Churm was my uncle, my grandmother's brother. His POW number is 2208. The record of his imprisonment at Stalag XX-B is at Royal Artillery (Field) Record Office. My father, who is 83 years old, remembers my grandmother, Arthur's sister, telling the stories of him being in the camp and the terrible time he had. Unfortunately my grandmother died during the war and communication with my uncle was cut off. Also, we have no pictures.

Jozef Ciesielski . from Poland
My husband's grandfather is Jozef Ciesielski. He was captured by German forces while defending Poland on March 17, 1939. He was interred in Stallag XXA and Stallag VIG. His numbers were 2426. In May 1941 he was transferred from one to the other, but in what order I am unsure. Joe passed away in 1996 and never really talked about his experience. In doing genealogy work on my husband's family, I have been very interested in trying to keeping Joe's memory alive for being one of the survivors.

Gladys Florence "Laddie" Citron . Land Army
My Mother was a member of this very important task force and I would like to contact anyone who might have known her during this time.
Her name was Gladys Florence Citron, known as 'Laddie'. She also had a particular friend, also in the Land Army, called 'Laddie' too. My Mother was a Londoner, had a sister called Beatrice Emily Citron. I do not think her sister was in this organisation. During her time in the Land Army she was based at Swift's, a very large farm in Much Hadham in Herts. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Gladys Florence "Laddie" Citron . Womens Land Army from 7 Mildmay Road, Islington. London
I am seeking any information on my Mother, Gladys Florence Citron, who was a member of the Women's Land Army during World War 2. I believe she was working in a village called Much Hadham, Herts. When Mum was alive she said she worked on the farm owned by Swift's, not sure if this was connected to Swift's corned beef people. She was very friendly with another lady named 'Gladys' and this is why Mum was nicknamed 'Laddie' I have one very old, small photo of a crowd of ladies during that time.

He flew with 460Sq(RAAF) from RAF Binbrook I have been trying to find out more about the crew he flew with. I met Margaret Russell, widow of the Pilot. T. If so please let us know.
Help us to build a database of information on those who served both at home and abroad so that future generations may learn of their sacrifice.
Celebrate your own Family History
Celebrate by honouring members of your family who served in the Secomd World War both in the forces and at home. We love to hear about the soldiers, but also remember the many who served in support roles, nurses, doctors, land army, muntions workers etc.
Please use our Family History resources to find out more about your relatives. Then please send in a short article, with a photo if possible, so that they can be remembered on these pages.
The free section of the Wartime Memories Project website is run by volunteers. We have been helping people find out more about their relatives wartime experiences since 1999 by recording and preserving recollections, documents, photographs and small items.
The website is paid for out of our own pockets, library subscriptions and from donations made by visitors. The popularity of the site means that it is far exceeding available resources and we currently have a huge backlog of submissions.
If you are enjoying the site, please consider making a donation, however small to help with the costs of keeping the site running.
